Hi y'all! I came over from self.com and thought that this blog would be a great way to combine my addiction to blogs and my goal to lose weight-- and hopefully support others in the process! I've just skimmed over the back entries and it looks like you all are doing very well with your diets/exercise routines.
I'm about to turn 24 and am busy with a full-time job, a part-time job, and part-time graduate school. That alone has allowed me to drop a few pounds since I graduated from college two years ago--just lack of time! Unfortunately, I've gotten to the point where simply not having the time to snack won't help me drop pounds anymore. I'm weighing in at 168 now, and I'd like to get back down to 150 where I was before and during my freshman year of college (I'm 5'9). My short-term goal is to hit 158 by Memorial Day weekend (my b'day!!) and my boyfriend is really supportive of the entire adventure (he's promised to buy me a new bathing suit for summer!!) and has put himself on a diet, too, to help out.
I've got some tips for those looking to fit in exercise into otherwise crazy days, and would love to hear some of your ideas! I'd also love ideas on fitting in healthy snacks into hectic days, healthy meals-to-go (I have night class twice a week so I used to pack a sandwich, etc. but I'm trying to cut down on the carbs). We also tend to go out with friends to bars, so I've got to be better about cutting alcohol calories. Any tips would be great! I'd love to hear your suggestions and promise to make my way back and comment on your posts a.s.a.p.
Good luck to you all!

Hi Beth--you sound so much like me!! I'm 22, graduated from college last May and now am balancing a full-time job, looking for a part-time job AND having a social life...it's tough!!
As far as the making time for snacks--the key thing is to PLAN AHEAD! Either pack a lunch box the night before with fruits and veggies and low-cal cheese, or make it easy-to-grab in the mornings. I always am on the go in the mornings, so I grab a banana, yogurt and orange and toss it in my purse. It really helps you stay in control when you actually have the food in front of you. I put my banana on my desk every morning so I know it's there when I start feeling really hungry. Snacking also helps you control going overboard at lunch, so try to make it a priority!!!
As far as going to bars...this is my downfall too!! I know that Bacardi and Diet Coke mixed is zero calories....it might also be helpful to get a club soda with a twist of lime. just having something in front of you to drink, like diet soda, will still make you feel sociable, but won't have you drinking in the calories!
Hope this helps!

Thanks Lins!
I've picked up a great habit over the past few months at bars, which is just ordering a water with every drink at the bar, and eventually just asking for water towards the end of the night. That way, I don't feel crappy the next morning, and it cutes down on the alcohol. Of course, every drink is still a solid 120-200 calories that I don't need :)
